- BRILLIANCE APPENDICES
- =====================
- TYPED BY SHARD
- APPENDIX A
- ----------
-
- Trouble Shooting
-
- Brilliance has been designed to be as trouble free as possible. However,
- if you should experience difficulties with Brilliance, please check the
- following list before giving Digital Creations Customer Support a call.
-
- 1. Make sure that you have installed Brilliance and TrueBrilliance
- properly.
-
- 2. Make sure that the Software Key is present and installed properly in
- the correct port. WARNING: Do not plug or unplug the Software Key or
- anything into your computer when the powter is on.
-
- 3. Make sure that you are running the correct version of the paint
- program. Remember that Brilliance (register based) and TrueBrilliance
- (HAM) have some features that are not common to both.
-
- 4. Check the User Feedback Area of the program to see if you are in the
- correct mode.
-
- 5. Check the main menu to see which gadgets are turned on: For example,
- if grid is turned on it may be impossible to paint at a certain location.
-
- 6. Make sure that the Draw Mode and the tool you've selected are working
- together.
-
- 7. When Saving or Loading make sure that the Save and/or Load requester is
- the correct one for the desired results. For example, you try to load an
- animation but can only load the first frame. The problem might be that you
- are trying to load an animation with the Load Picture requester instead of
- the Load Animation requester.
-
- If you've gone through the above steps and still need help, then it is time
- to give Customer Service a call.
-
- Before you call, complete this check list. You will be asked these
- questions at the beginning of your support session.
-
- 1. Your Name?

- APPENDIX C
-
- Load & Save Requesters
-
- Brilliance uses a consistent set of Load and Save requesters for all of its
- buffer activities. We have decided to have an appendix for these
- requesters since much of the information was the same from requester to
- requester.
-
- This appendix divides the information regarding the Load and Save
- requesters into two parts. The first part deals with the general workings
- of all Load and Save requesters. The second part gives spacific
- information on each of the six types of Load and Save requesters.
-
- Load and Save - General
-
-
- General Layout
-
- Each Save and Load requester is comprised of 5 areas. Except for some
- minor differences discussed in the Save and Load - Specific section
- following this one, these 5 areas are identical on all Save and Load
- requesters.
-
- Title Bar
- Each requester has a Title bar at the top. It identifies the file type
- (Picture, Brush, Anim brush, Animation, Palette, or Stencil) and action
- (Load or Save) that it deals with.
-
- The color of the Title bar reflects the function of the requester. Load
- requesters are blue. Save requesters are red (warning!).
-
- At the right of each Title bar is the Screen Depth gadget. See the
- reference section on Sereen Depth gadget for more information on this.
-
- Information area
-
- At the top left of the requester, beneath the Title bar is the Information
- area. There are three main parts in this area.
-
- Icon - File Type
- At the top left of this area is an icon that represents the specific file
- type of the current requester. The graphic contained in this icon follows
- the design of the gadget or tool on the main menu that was instrumental in
- bringing this requester up. For example: the icon on the Save or Load
- Anim-brush requesters is similar in design to the Anim brush tool on the
- main menu.
-
- This is also identical in appearance to the icon that is saved with the
- file for use with WorkBench.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hint: Use this icon to double check that you are in the correct requester.
- Since all of the requesters have the same general appearance, getting use
- to checking this icon may save you from the disappointment of saving an
- image as some other file format such as a stencil.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- Info Button
- Clicking on the Info button located at the bottom left of the Information
- Area will make Brilliance retrieve and display pertinent information for
- any file that has been selected by a single click in the File Selector
- area.
-
- Information Display Area
- After clicking on the Info button, the information is displayed here. If
- the file type is not one that Brilliance knows about, an error box comes up
- with the message "Unknown file type." Click on OK to cancel this box. The
- table below shows the various pieces of information available from each
- file type.
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Hint: Hold down the Shift key and click the left mouse button once on a
- filename in the File Selector area to get information. If the file type is
- one that Brilliance recognizes then the information will be displayed in
- the Information Display area. If not, nothing happens
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- File Selector Area
-
- The file selector area enables you to find files you want to load via an
- easy to use point and click file requester. It also provides a way to set
- up a destination and name files you wish to save.
-
- File Display Area
- To see the available Disks, Devices, Assigns, and Volumes available, click
- on the Volumes gadget on the Action Gadgets bar.
-
- The Disk, Volume, and Device name will appear in the File Display Area as
- black text. The Assign and Logical devices will appear as white text.
- Click one time with the left mouse button on one of the listed items. Now
- a list of Directories and files should appear. The Directories are white;
- files are black.
-
- Clicking on the drag bar at the right or clicking on the up or down arrows
- at the right will make the files and directories go into an alphabetical
- sort with the files listed first
-
- If the list of disks, assigns, volumes, or avilable files is larger than
- the File Display Area, you can scroll up and down the lists using the arrow
- buttons located to the right of the window.
-
- Drawer
- The Drawer: text gadget is both a display gadget and an input gadget. If
- you click on a Volume, Assign, or Device name it will be displayed here.
- Additional directories in the path will also be displayed here. If you
- type "C:" into this gadget and press [Return] it will make "C:" the current
- directory and the contents of that directory will display in the File
- Display Area.
-
- File
- The File: text gadget is both a display gadget and an input gadget also
-
- When you click on a filename in the File Display Area it will he displayed
- in the File: text gadget
-
- To name a file for saving, enter its name here. Either press [Return] or
- click on the Save gadget
-
- To presort files and go directly to the top of the listing of a certain
- groups of files, type the first letter of the files you are looking for
- into the File: gadget.
-
- Pattern
- Pattern: allows for the use of wildcards or pattern matching. See your
- DOS manual for the pattern matching information for your version of DOS
-
- Try this! Type:
- C:#?Dir
-
- into the File: text gadget. The C: will appear in the Drawer; gadget and
- the #?Dir will appear in the pattern:gadget. The File Display Area will
- probably list two files; Dir and MakeDir, both found in the C directory.
-
- Options Area
- The options area provides different ways to load and save your files.
- These are covered in the Load and Save - Specific part of this appendix.
-
- Action Gadgets
- The Action Gadgets are located on the bar at the bottom of the Load and
- Save requester.
-
- Load (Load Requesters Only)
- Clicking here will load the picture. brush, palette, animation, anim brush
- or stencil that you have chosen from the File Selector area.
-
- You can also load the selected file by double clicking on the name of the
- file in the File Selector Area
-
- Save (Save Requesters only)
- Clicking here will save the picture, brush, palette, animation, anim brush,
- or stencil that you have named in the File Selector area at the File:
- requester.
-
- Volumes
- Clicking here will make a list of all of the Volumes and Assigns on the
- computer.
-
- Parent
- Clicking on Parent will take the current directory back up one step. If
- your current directory was RAM:MyPics/Old and you click on Parent, the new
- current directory would be RAM:MyPics.
-
- Cancel
- Clicking on Cancel will cancel the use of the current requester and return
- you to the Brilliance menus.
-
- Load and Save - Specific
-
- Special Options
- All of the six types of files (images, brushes, animations, anim brushes,
- stencils and palettes) that can be saved and loaded in Brilliance use the

-
-
- Save Anim - Brilliance and TrueBrilliance
-
- Save Format
- Brilliance allows the saving of animations in one of three animation
- formats. These fomats are important when you want to playback the
- animation using software other than Brilliance.
-
- Op-5 Byte
- Op-5 Byte format is the older animation format. This format is the only
- animation format compatible with Deluxe Paint as of this writing.
-
- Op-8 Word
- Op-8 is the newer animation format. The Word (16 bits) version of this
- format will normally be smaller and slower than the long version. This
- version may play faster than the Long version on 68000 machines.
-
- Op-8 Long
- The Long (32 bits) version is the fastest version for playback. Should be
- used on machines with 68020 processors or higher.
-
- Frame Range
- You may save the entire range of frames (the default) in an animation or
- you may specify only a certain range. The animation will be saved starting
- from the From: frame number and save all frames up to and including the
- To: frame.
-
- From:
- The From: text gadget allows you to enter and specify the first frame of
- the animation to save. Use the up and down arrow gadgets to raise or lower
- the number. The From: value can be equal to but never greater than the
- To: value
-
- To:
- The To: text gadget allows you to enter and specify the last frame of the
- animation to save. Use the up and down arrow gadgets to raise or lower the
- number. The To: value can be equal to but never less than the To: value
-
-
- Spacial Image Loading
-
- Brilliance
-
- Brilliance can load the following file types:
-
- Register based images - standard bitmap images 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, or
- 256 colors
-
- Grey scale images
-
- DCTV Display images (3 or 4 bitplane, 8/16 colors) as a hi-res picture for
- display only through the DCTV hardware on composite monitors
-
-
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
- Note: If the image is deeper (has more bitplanes or colors) than your
- Amiga can handle, Brilliance will load the picture but truncate the file
- information. For example a 256 color image loaded into a non-AGA machine
- may load as a 32 color image.
- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
-
- TrueBrilliance
-
- TrueBrilliance can load the following file types:
-
- Register based images - standard bitmap images 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128,
- 256
-
- Grey scale images
-
- HAM both HAM6 and HAM8
-
- True Color - both 15-bit and 24 bit
-
- DCTV Display images for viewing and printing in TrueBrilliance on RGB
- monitors.

- APPENDIX D
-
- Configuring Brilliance
-
- Menu Hotkeys
-
- One of the most exiting features of Brilliance is the Menu Hotkey system.
- This is the ability to stack menus and save each configuration for quick
- recall at the touch of a key.
-
- To use the Menu Hotkey system just press one of the nine keys, 1-9 on the
- numeric keypad. If you have an Awiga A600 you will be unable to use this
- feature due to the lack of a numeric keypad.
-
- To set up your own Menu Hotkeys just bring the menus that you wish up on
- the screen. Get them into the order you desire (top to bottom) and press
- and hold down the Shift key and select the key (1 through 9 on the numeric
- keypad) to assign it there.
-
- If you save your Preferences from the Buffer Menu, you'll over-write the
- default Hotkeys or any that you`ve previously saved.
-
